The Annual Summary Book compiles insights from 12 thought-provoking presentations that address a diverse range of pressing issues affecting children, youth, and women in Ethiopia. These discussions feature contributions from leading research organizations such as the African Child Policy Forum (ACPF), Young Lives, Gender and Adolescence: Global Evidence (GAGE), and the Population Council. International organizations, including UNICEF, the World Health Organization (WHO), and the World Bank, alongside international NGOs like Pathfinder International and Freedom Fund, further enrich these discussions. Researchers from Ethiopian institutions, notably Addis Ababa University, Haramaya University, and the Policy Studies Institute, have also made significant contributions.
Key themes explored include child wellbeing, early childhood education among refugees, child protection in the context of child labour and domestic work, rural-to-urban migration among girls, adolescent sexual and reproductive health, and women’s caregiving roles. The Forum also delves into the impacts of recent crises in Ethiopia, particularly conflicts and their effects on adolescents' education and mental health.
This publication provides concise summaries and actionable policy recommendations on critical topics such as expanding fiscal space for children, enhancing child sensitivity in social policies, combating child labour, addressing the challenges faced by girl domestic workers, advancing adolescent sexual and reproductive health rights, and recognizing women’s pivotal roles in the care economy.
